The domain

The Chave family is established in the Rhone Valley wine industry thanks to a local lord who granted them land at the end of the 15th century. Today, Jean-Louis Chave manages this estate on the Hermitage hillside but also owns parcels in the Saint-Joseph appellation. He seeks to perpetuate the practices that have forged the estate's reputation: control of yields, no herbicides or artificial fertilizers, late harvests to achieve perfect ripeness, and low-intervention winemaking, letting the wine build itself up as it wishes.

The wine

More closed than the wines of the domain are usually, this wine opens up slowly with aeration on aromas of black fruits, spices, with toasted and smoked notes from the barrel. On the palate, one discovers a wine with an imposing volume, robust, concentrated, with the freshness of the vintage in support. The ageing potential is exceptional.
