The domain
Established in 1150 by the Burgundian monks of Cîteaux towards the Abbey of Morgeot, the vineyard was destroyed in the 15th century by the troops of the King of France who devastated the village of Chassagne in reprisal for the loyalty of its inhabitants to Marie, the last Duchess of Burgundy. The Abbey became a Magenta property in the 1960s, when Philippe, 9th Marquis de Mac Mahon, 4th Duke of Magenta, fell under its spell. Since their arrival at Château de Sully, around 1750, the Mac Mahon family has been making wine in Burgundy. In his image, Philippe, 4th Duke of Magenta will give a worldwide fame to the domain thanks to wines of a great elegance. He is at the origin of the famous Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Garenne and the Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Abbaye de Morgeot. Since 2002, Duchess Amélie has been living at Château de Sully and is in charge of the management of the wine estate, until her children, Pélagie and Maurice, take over.
The wine
This vintage is one of the most sumptuous of the estate. It impresses by its transparency, its generosity and its silkiness. The colour is quite brilliant, golden and the nose gives off aromas of hazelnuts, fruit and white flowers.
